the past holiday was one of those where i could afford to make a decision to fly with my 4yr old son...the flights were expensive and not available at the times we preferred, but they were faster and got us home to our parents on time. it was pretty flying up there.
my 17yr old cousin decided it was time for him to do the whole Xhosa boys2man bush thing...i didnt miss him much while he was there because chances are he would not have wanted to come and spend his holidays at my gran's in any case - but yup we cooked for him and his companions while he was there. we even took pictures - he enjoyed posing...and then it was the big day for him - Dec 23rd, 2010...i must get the song that they sang on his way back. he received our warmest welcome back home...lots of meat, alcohol, people, children, dogs, oh and mud because it was rainy.
this whole family gig was happening on the same day with the Made in Alice Festival, which is mainly an annual music (but not life stuff) for young people in and around Alice...i think i must get involved to make it's circle bigger. but it was great dancing in the rain, at Alice in the night. it was beautiful...the people from my home town are beautiful shame and we were all speaking the same language, meeting cousins that i didnt know, making new friends and having loads of fun...oh and we went to the only club in Alice, the bluetooth - no comments (one needs to experience it for self - how is that for advertising - lol).
then the next day and only the next day, my family remembered that the 25th was Xmas...so had to do our last minute dot com shopping, but eish shame in Alice you cant get much hey. so we drove off to Fort Beaufort but still didnt get much but we had the basics aka sheep, instead of turkey my family prefers to wake up to braai vleis for breakfast, chops for lunch and stew for dinner...and the insides in between then my gran wud snack on the sheep head. thats just our family tradition - i guess we have a vegeterian phobia.
meanwhile all this time i dont have transport independence hey...and because theres many kids in the clan, whenever i got to drive and go somewhere i must hide from my son - who is literally my purse under our normal circumstances. he didnt like my ditching him at all...but it was a good holiday. his speech and assertiveness improved. he walked up and down the village's only street with other kids his age and pretty much enjoyed himself.
who does Eastern Cape and not do East London?!? i spent my last two nights of holidaying there...if i had transport, things wud have been very different - but i dont know whether good or bad - lol. i enjoyed what i had...clubbing (at Vincent, just 2mins walking distance from where i stayed), partying (where everything was for free - all incl.), hooking up with old buddies (who had transport - lol), family braais etc...it was awesome. i particularly enjoyed chilling with the fam at the Hammingways Foodcourt.
my next holiday in Eastern Cape should focus more on the transkei side of the kei river...theres beautiful spots there, i believe (based on what i read - lol)...so Imbotyi here i come - for life is too short so one cant afford not to have been to transkei!!!
